Fire Captain Charged in Trade Center Scuffle
The New York City fire officers union president surrendered to police to face a trespassing charge, the second union leader arrested in a scuffle with police during a firefighters rally last week.
Capt. Peter Gorman pleaded innocent to the misdemeanor charge.
Kevin Gallagher, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Assn., was charged with trespassing Saturday for trying to cross a police barrier at the rally at the World Trade Center site.
Hundreds of firefighters came out Friday to protest a change in city policy that limits the number of Fire Department members helping to recover the remains of World Trade Center attack victims.
As they tried to march past a barricade near the site, firefighters tangled with police. Five police officers were injured.
