ID Cards From Mexico Come With a High Price

Share

Re “Officers May Accept ID Cards Issued by Mexico,” Nov. 6: This is another major cop-out rigged by politicians who want to perpetuate themselves in office by making cops accept a dubious Mexican consulate “get out of jail free” card so as to be better loved by those who are putting their constituency before their country’s security.

Are there no terrorist sleeper cells in Mexico waiting to take a shot at us? The upside for the police is that they can turn a blind eye to known illegals of unknown criminal backgrounds and save time and money by not transporting, booking, jailing and advising the INS. The police say they are not immigration agents, but they are county and municipal law enforcement. Immigration gets a chance to do its job by the police doing theirs. Its officers have a duty to all citizens, not just the Hispanic activists who promise better relations if they cave in and abdicate their basic responsibilities.

As an aside, how do you think you would fare being picked up by the police in Mexico for speeding with nothing but an ID card from an American consulate and no other ID, driver’s license, insurance, etc.? I guarantee they wouldn’t cite and release you. You’d be in a Mexican jail, pronto .

The Orange County Chiefs of Police and Sheriff’s Assn. appears to have gone out of its collective mind. Its members are now advocating that it is perfectly reasonable for a foreign government official to provide illegal aliens with a “get out of jail free card.” As citizens clamor for closing the border and removing illegal aliens from our midst after the Sept. 11 terrorism, our chief law enforcement officers have decided to spit in everyone’s eye. This insanity has gone too far and now the lunatics really are running the asylum.
