Park City, Utah’s Polygamy Porter may taste good, but whether it’s advertising is in good taste is subject to debate.
The slogans, “Why have just one?” and “Take some home for the wives,” are in good fun, said owner Greg Schrif.
But two local billboard companies have refused to rent Schrif space for his ads and the Utah Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission has discussed banning advertising that pokes fun at religion.
Civic leaders touting a cosmopolitan image consider it a sore point to bring up the once-sanctioned Mormon practice.
For now, business is good.
“The beer is flying off the shelves,” Schrif said.
