Tropical Storm Lingling intensified into a typhoon and blew toward Vietnam after killing at least 148 people and leaving 177 missing in central and southern Philippine provinces.

Officials said they were losing hope of finding survivors among the missing, including 119 people in the island province of Camiguin.

“At this stage, there will be no more survivors,” said Camiguin Gov. Pedro Romualdo, “but we are still continuing our recovery efforts.”
