8 Guerrillas, 11 Soldiers Killed in Kashmir Clash

Eight Muslim separatists and 11 Indian soldiers were killed in a clash in India’s Himalayan state of Jammu and Kashmir, a defense official said.
The skirmish in Poonch district, 160 miles north of Jammu, the state’s winter capital, also wounded five soldiers, the official said.
Separatist violence has escalated in the region in recent weeks. Nearly a dozen militant groups are fighting New Delhi’s rule in the country’s only Muslim-majority state.
