From Times Wire Reports

Gunmen set off a car bomb outside the state legislature in Indian-ruled Kashmir and then opened fire inside the building. At least 31 people were killed and 75 wounded.

Two assailants rushed into the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly building after the blast and traded fire with security forces for seven hours before both gunmen were killed, police said.

No lawmakers were killed or injured because they have been meeting in temporary facilities since the legislature building was damaged by fire recently. The Pakistan-based Islamic militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is fighting for the independence of Jammu and Kashmir, claimed responsibility.
