Tropical Storm Lorena was losing strength as it headed toward Mexico’s Pacific coast, and authorities canceled a hurricane watch.
Lorena’s winds had dropped from 60 mph to 40 mph, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Storms become hurricanes when winds reach 74 mph.
A tropical storm warning remained in effect. Forecasts suggested that the storm could hit land between Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan late today or early Friday.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Juliette faded to a rainstorm over Baja California after a 12-day run up the Mexican coast that killed three people.
