Wireless Companies Are Ringing Patriotic
AT&T; Wireless Services Inc. and Cingular Wireless are letting customers download for free patriotic ring tones such as “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Cingular routinely offers one free promotional tone, spokesman Clay Owen said. The company moved the national anthem into that spot after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and it’s been customers’ top choice, accounting for 20% of Cingular’s thousands of downloads as of last week, he said.
AT&T; Wireless also is offering “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” for free. Both songs have been its most-requested tones, a spokesman said, and will be available free for at least the next two months.
