Accuser Testifies in Rape Trial of U.S. Airman
A woman who claims she was raped by a U.S. Air Force sergeant testified that she did not consent to sex with the American and said she hopes he will be sent to prison.
Testifying by video linkup, the woman, who is 20, accused Timothy B. Woodland, 24, of raping her outside a nightclub June 29. Woodland, stationed at Okinawa’s Kadena Air Base, has admitted having sex with her but claims it was consensual.
“I resisted,” the woman told the Naha District Court. “I don’t think any of my actions indicated that I was consenting.” The Naha court is hearing the case because the crime allegedly occurred off-base and thus under Japanese jurisdiction.
If convicted, Woodland faces a minimum of two years in prison.
