“I was just on a motorcycle ride up to Mount Lassen with a group of guys. We stayed in Chester, on Lake Almanor, and went out to dinner--that’s part of the ‘eat to ride and ride to eat’ group. We went to a restaurant called the Peninsula Bar and Grill. I had the ’98 Saviez Zinfandel from Napa Valley.... It was the first time I’ve seen their label. I thought Zinfandel was appropriate for a motorcycle ride. It was fabulous--rich and silky, ripe and flavorful, without being overblown. All wines seem to be converging on the same taste--overripe, overblown, over-oaked--and this had wonderful Zinfandel character, berry fruit, very smooth, sweet rich fruit flavor.”
