Los Angeles lost out to Montreal on Thursday in the bid for the 2006 Gay Games, which were projected to create $400 million in revenue for Southern California.

“We were quite hopeful it would be held here,” said John Duel of the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, which was involved in the bid. “We’re disappointed, but we congratulate Montreal.”

The decision was made this week by the Federation of Gay Games in Johannesburg, South Africa. About 14,000 people participate in the games, started in San Francisco in 1982.
