King’s Only Son Named Publicly as Crown Prince

Nepal’s new King Gyanendra named his only son as heir to the throne in a public move to shore up the succession after the June massacre of most of the royal family, including the crown prince.
The formal appointment of Prince Paras, announced on state television, underlined a shift away from his image as a playboy since the rampage by Crown Prince Dipendra.
Paras, 28, the only son of King Gyanendra and Queen Komal, has remained a source of public embarrassment for the royal family.
