Suicide Attack Sinks Fuel Ship; 3 Missing
Suicide bombers thought to be Tamil Tiger rebels rammed boats laden with explosives into a fuel ship with 28 people on board, sparking a fire and sinking the vessel, the Defense Ministry said.
Three people were missing, while the navy rescued 25 others from the fuel ship, said Brig. Sanath Karunaratne. He estimated that 10 militants were killed in the attack.
At least five rebel boats were involved in the attack off the northern Jaffna peninsula, a main battle zone in the separatist war by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
