Deadlock in Cincinnati Police Murder Trial

From Times Wire Reports

Jurors in Cincinnati deadlocked on an involuntary manslaughter charge against a white police officer accused in the death of a black man, but they found him not guilty of misdemeanor assault.

Robert Jorg, 30, had faced up to five years in prison if convicted of both charges in the asphyxiation death of Roger Owensby Jr., 29. Police said officers stopped Owensby last year to question him about a drug offense, and that he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed after he tried to flee.

Owensby’s death was ruled a homicide, caused by a chokehold or by the weight of officers piling on top of him during the struggle.
