Re “Welfare Reform Needs Reform,” Commentary, Aug. 27: One significantly redeeming feature in our present “reformed welfare program” is that it does not promote a generation-to-generation expectation of life without goals and public-supported unwed mothers with no visible or responsible father. The long-term hope for a return to personal responsibility is worth the present pain.
