Wine of the Week

This is one of four single-vineyard Pinot Noirs produced by Burgundian fanatic Sean Capiaux from a cool growing site in the Russian River Valley. For a California Pinot Noir this good, it’s a bargain. Understated and elegant, round and supple in the mouth, it has a lovely fine-spun texture, smooth tannins and lots of beautiful fruit. It’s wonderful with food, from whole grilled fish and fish soup to roast chicken and veal chops.

If you miss out on the Widdoes, look for the same producer’s Pinot Noirs from Demostene Vineyard or Gary’s Vineyard.

About $32. Available at fine wine shops.
