Refund Checks Continue to Go to Taxpayers
The Treasury Department will mail its eighth batch of advance tax refunds to taxpayers Friday, bringing the total sent out to more than $27 billion.
On Thursday, Treasury said the latest group will include some 8.4 million checks worth about $3.56 billion. The checks will be for taxpayers with Social Security numbers ending in 70 through 79.
The checks are part of President Bush’s 10-year $1.35-trillion tax cut plan. Treasury estimated it would send out about $38 billion in checks to 92 million taxpayers over a 10-week period ending in September.
