After Extradition, Fraud Suspect Goes Free

Share

Mexico’s most-wanted fugitive, former banking magnate Carlos Cabal Peniche, arrived in Mexico after his highly publicized extradition from Australia--only to walk free after most of the charges against him were dismissed.

Cabal, 44, stepped off the plane not into the custody of police, but into the arms of his high-powered lawyers.

Cabal was extradited Wednesday from Australia--where he was arrested after a three-year international manhunt--to face charges of defrauding his banks of $700 million, money laundering and tax evasion.
