2 Fugitives Captured in Yellowstone
Two fugitives wanted for assaulting a Minnesota couple were arrested Friday evening, a few miles from a popular campground that was evacuated during a search and standoff with a SWAT team, park officials said.
The fugitives, along with an unidentified juvenile female, were arrested at 6 p.m., about 12 hours after authorities first encountered them.
“They were in the Le Hardy Rapids area, up near some trees when they were spotted by some searchers,” said park spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews. “They tried to run, but they were quickly apprehended. They offered no resistance and no one was injured.”
Authorities earlier identified the men as Patrick J. Engelbrecht, 18, and Thomas J. O’Flanagan, 19, both of Superior, Wis. They are wanted for a string of burglaries in that state in which police say they stole at least a half-dozen guns.
They also are prime suspects in the assault of an elderly couple at their home in New Brighton, Minn., Wednesday. Police say the men beat the couple and stole a truck.
