Soldier in Kashmir Kills 4 Colleagues and Himself
An Indian soldier in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir sprayed an army barracks with automatic rifle fire, killing four colleagues and himself, a defense spokesman said.
The rampage Sunday night was at least the third of its kind this year involving security forces in Kashmir, who are struggling to crush a 12-year-old rebellion against New Delhi’s rule. Physicians say psychological problems among security personnel are rising, particularly as guerrillas step up suicide attacks.
The shooting took place in Udhampur, the headquarters of the army’s northern command in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
