If this is the future, prepare for sleek to get more muscular in forthcoming Jaguars. The venerable British marque (now part of Ford Motor Co.’s Premier Automotive Group) introduced the R-Coupe concept Tuesday at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, calling it a demonstration of how Jaguar’s design philosophy might develop. The task, said Jaguar designer Ian Callum, was to interpret core values of proportion and stance, as well as key visual elements such as the signature Jag grille, in modern terms. So the R-Coupe harks back to the lovely Jaguar coupes of the 1950s and ‘60s, especially from front and rear views. But from the side, and on the inside, it is thoroughly modern.
