Israeli Tanks Ring Jenin; Truce Talks Called Off
Israeli tanks encircled the Palestinian-ruled West Bank city of Jenin in an operation that the army said was intended to prevent suicide bombers from reaching Israel.
The advance prompted fighting in which hospital sources said two Palestinians were killed. Amid the rising tensions, high-level truce talks were postponed once more.
In separate violence, hospital sources said Israeli troops killed a Palestinian traveling in a car in the Gaza Strip, and police reported that Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli paramilitary policemen guarding a base near the West Bank.
