Russian security agencies offered to share information with the U.S. to help track down the terrorists responsible for Tuesday’s attacks.

President Vladimir V. Putin phoned President Bush, and the two leaders agreed on the need to unite in the fight against terrorism.

In Moscow, hundreds of Russians piled flowers, wreaths, candles and religious icons outside the U.S. Embassy, many with messages of sympathy for the victims in the U.S.

“America, be fortitude. We pray for you and want to help,” one read.

Another scrawled on note paper said: “Please don’t die! Take our sympathy. We pray about you.”
