Changing of Guard Dedicated to Victims
Buckingham Palace staged a special changing of the guard dedicated to victims of the terror attacks.
In an unprecedented move, a British military band played the U.S. national anthem during the somber ceremony, watched by U.S. Ambassador William Farish and Prince Andrew, a son of Queen Elizabeth II.
Hundreds of mourners outside the palace observed two minutes of silence under a gray sky. The queen was absent but will return from her Balmoral summer home in Scotland to attend a special remembrance service for the victims at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London today.
Meanwhile, the Lloyd’s of London insurance market honored the dead by ringing the 18th century Lutine Bell, a tradition once used to announce the disaster of a ship lost at sea.
