Serbian authorities exhumed at least 48 bodies in civilian clothes from the fifth mass grave to be uncovered in the Yugoslav republic since the fall of President Slobodan Milosevic, media reports said.

The victims, all older than 17, had been shot, the district court in the western town of Uzice said in a statement, according to the Beta news agency.

Of those exhumed, 38 were men and one was a woman. The experts had not been able to determine the gender of the other nine sets of remains, the statement said.
