Political E-Mail Lands Lawyer 3 Years in Prison
A lawyer and former Chinese television editor who used a Hong Kong-based Web site to e-mail political articles to friends has been sentenced to three years in prison on subversion charges, a Hong Kong-based rights group said.
Judges at the Intermediate People’s Court in the southern city of Shaoyang were inclined to be lenient, the Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said, but Communist Party officials overruled them.
The center said Zhu Ruixiang, 50, was convicted of inciting the overthrow of state power.
