3Com Widens Loss, Plans More Job Cuts

3Com Corp. reported a wider quarterly loss that was in line with expectations and said it would cut 1,000 more jobs than it had expected in its restructuring plan.

The networking parts maker said its operating loss widened to $132 million, or 38 cents a share, from $41.3 million, or 12 cents, a year ago. Revenue for the quarter ended in August dropped 58% to $390 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call had predicted 3Com would post a loss of 25 cents to 45 cents, with an average estimate of a 35-cent loss.

The Santa Clara-based company’s shares rose 20 cents to $3.69 on Nasdaq.
