20 Die in Two Separate Fireworks Explosions
Twenty people, including five police officers, were killed in two separate fireworks explosions in China’s central province of Hubei, the official New China News Agency reported.
A group of more than 20 government officials and police raided a village near Wuhan, the provincial capital, Tuesday night to confiscate fireworks from farmers who were selling them, the news agency said. An explosion at a dealer’s house shortly thereafter killed 17 people, including five police officers, the news agency said.
Earlier Tuesday, an explosion in Wuhan killed three people at an illegal private fireworks plant.
