Belgian Makes First Euro Withdrawal at ATM

Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders became the first European to withdraw euro cash from an automated teller machine.
Reynders proudly displayed the 150 euros from a machine set up for a weekend meeting of European Union finance ministers.
EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pedro Solbes was the first to buy a drink--bottled water--from a vending machine with euro coins.
Euro notes and coins will become legal tender Jan. 1.
