U.N. Leaving Somalia Over Loss of Insurance

The United Nations is withdrawing its international staff from Somalia after losing insurance coverage on its flights in and out of the nation, an official said.
The world body’s war-risk insurance coverage was withdrawn because of the enormous volume of claims its insurance company received after the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, Bernard Harborne, chief of the U.N. Coordination Unit, said in a statement issued in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.
Insurance costs have always been high because of the nation’s unrest.
