Suspected Bin Laden Aide Sought by Interpol
From Times Staff Reports
Interpol issued an arrest warrant for Ayman Zawahri, an Egyptian-born surgeon reported to be Osama bin Laden’s deputy.
The international police organization, meeting in Budapest, the Hungarian capital, said in a statement that Zawahri, 51, was the leader of Jihad, a militant group based in Egypt.
It said he had emerged as a key figure in Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network, which is suspected of orchestrating this month’s suicide hijackings in the U.S.
The warrant was issued at the request of Egyptian police.
