Ruling Party Committee Ousts 2 Senior Officials
China’s Communist Party dismissed two senior figures on corruption charges at its Central Committee’s annual meeting and praised President Jiang Zemin’s campaign to give capitalists a place in the ruling party.
Shi Zhaobin, a former deputy party secretary in Fujian province, took about $85,000 in bribes to help a multibillion-dollar smuggling ring in Xiamen, the conference communique said, the official New China News Agency reported.
Li Jiating, a former deputy party secretary in Yunnan province, was dismissed for taking $145,000 in bribes in an unrelated case, the communique said. It said he also received $2.5 million in illicit profits.
