India’s government arrested the leader of a militant Muslim group that backs terrorism suspect Osama bin Laden, after a ban on the group prompted riots that killed four people.

The Students Islamic Movement of India was outlawed Wednesday, sparking street battles between Muslim protesters and police in Lucknow, in Uttar Pradesh state.

Police fired at the mob, killing four young people and injuring 12 others. A curfew was imposed in parts of the city.
