McDonald’s Corp. said it is conducting its first U.S. market test of imported beef.

McDonald’s is responding to a decline in the slaughter of beef and dairy cows used for the production of hamburger meat, the company said. An undisclosed amount of beef purchased from Australia and New Zealand is used in McDonald’s restaurants in the Southeast.

Shares of Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s rose 25 cents to $27.50 on the NYSE.
