Land Mine Blast Kills 5 Soldiers in Chechnya
From Times Wire Reports
Five Russian servicemen died in separatist Chechnya when their armored vehicle detonated a mine outside Grozny, the republic’s capital, Interfax news agency reported.
The agency, quoting the military, said the vehicle blew up just after passing a checkpoint.
President Vladimir V. Putin and other officials say Moscow’s forces control the entire region. The troops, however, are constantly subject to attack.
