Volunteer Counselors for Elderly Sought

Detail-oriented people who enjoy working with senior citizens are wanted to serve as volunteer counselors for the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging.

Volunteers are needed to assist seniors with Medicare, Medigap, HMO and other long-term-care insurance questions.

The agency requires volunteer counselors to complete 24 hours of initial training and a 10-hour internship. After their training, counselors are registered by the state Department of Aging.

Counselors, who work by appointment at senior centers throughout the county, are asked to commit to at least 40 hours of counseling each year and to undergo 12 additional hours of training.
