Brandi Chastain atoned for a missed penalty kick and scored the game-winning goal in the San Jose CyberRays’ 2-1 victory Saturday over the Boston Breakers in a WUSA season opener at San Jose in front of 6,051.

Chastain fired a right-footed volley past Boston goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc in the 88th minute for the winner.

After a scoreless first half, Maren Meinert gave Boston a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute.

In the 69th minute, Chastain took a penalty kick. But Chastain, who converted a left-footed penalty kick for the United States in the 1999 World Cup final, pushed her right-footed shot wide left.
