* Agere Systems Inc., which Lucent Technologies Inc. plans to spin off, said its fiscal second-quarter loss widened as sales plunged by more than half. The loss grew to $219 million, or 13 cents a share, from $148 million, or 15 cents, a year earlier. Sales in the quarter fell to $551 million from $1.19 billion.

* XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc., the first U.S. satellite radio broadcaster, had a wider first-quarter loss as costs more than doubled. The loss widened to $112.3 million, or $1.56 a share after payment of preferred dividends, from $36.9 million, or 80 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales were $1.79 million.

* SeeBeyond Technology Corp.’s shares fell 52%, their largest decline since the Monrovia-based company went public in 2000, after the maker of software that links computer systems reported lower-than-expected first-quarter sales. Revenue fell 18% to $40.4 million from $49.4 million a year earlier.

* Expedia Inc. had a first-quarter profit of $5.72 million as the largest Internet travel seller increased hotel bookings and other sales. The profit was 9 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $17.6 million, or 37 cents, a year earlier. Sales doubled to $116 million from $57.2million a year earlier.
