Unrest among asylum seekers in Australia spread to a second detention camp as government officials said an earlier standoff was showing signs of easing.

An immigration spokeswoman said some detainees at the isolated Curtin center were still resisting after a weekend riot although others had surrendered weapons.

Detainees damaged facilities at the smaller Port Hedland camp, about 360 miles southwest of Curtin, during a protest late Monday, an immigration spokesman said.
