Thank you for George Pyle’s important warning regarding industrial agriculture (“Grim Reaping,” Commentary, July 29). The industrialization of our food supply is one of the reasons why I buy my food from farmers’ markets, where I can meet the people who grow my food and have a sense of a localized, organic agriculture that’s about supporting small family farmers rather than big agribusiness.

Pyle paints a grim picture indeed, but it’s encouraging to know that healthy alternatives already exist. It’s to everyone’s benefit that we begin to support our small local farmers if we ever hope to sustain the land that feeds us.
