Honor God by Making the Right Choices

Share

Norah Vincent makes an important point in her Aug. 1 commentary. She’s right to point out that the “God” most people worship in our culture is not the God of Scripture this country was founded on but a shallow, capricious deity who is more interested in making us feel good than maturing us into a people with character and compassion.

What isn’t so clearly seen, however, is our nagging habit of failing to take responsibility for our own actions. Instead of cursing or praising God for everything good or bad that happens, we need to look around and own up to the fact that people do things. People make choices; choices have consequences. What we need, then, is to seek to become people of godly virtue who make the right choices. Choices of love and justice, not self-centered greed.
