Finally, a Story About Someone With Integrity

Share

Re “Ballad of the Poor Samaritan,” Aug. 2:

Thank you for printing this article on the front page. I was planning to cancel my subscription to The Times because I was fed up with all the bad news. It’s nice to read a positive story of someone with integrity for a change. What a contrast to the picture (also on the front page) of the former CFO of WorldCom being taken into custody in handcuffs.

For a man who had everything material, Scott Sullivan could learn a lesson from Ascension Franco Gonzales, a poor immigrant who works 10 hour days as a dishwasher and sends most of his money to his mother in Mexico so that she can live in a modest home.

It is a sad commentary on our society that so many people believed that Ascension was dumb to return the money. He did what was right and honest and should be praised. He represents the type of integrity that there needs to be more of in the world today.
