22 in Egyptian Clan Killed in Revenge
Twenty-two members of an Egyptian clan died Saturday when another family apparently mounted a revenge attack for the killing of a relative.
Members of the Hunayshat family were ambushed by gunmen as they traveled in a minibus and a car from their village of Beit Allam to a court hearing in nearby Sohag province, about 250 miles south of Cairo, police said. The hearing involved two Hunayshat clansmen who are facing charges of murdering a member of the Abdel Halim family in April, security sources said.
An Interior Ministry statement, carried by Egypt’s Middle East News Agency, confirmed the 22 deaths.
At least two others were reported injured. The gunmen escaped into the fields.
