From Times Wire Reports

The Police Department has increased patrols at Hiram Johnson High School amid fears of escalating gang violence.

Officers, including members of the gang suppression unit, hope to curb incidents such as the fight that broke out Wednesday involving scores of students and sending one boy to the hospital with a concussion.

Angry parents, who blame overcrowding and administrators’ reluctance to crack down on the perpetuation of violence, made emotional pleas Thursday for school officials to stop the violence.
