Death Toll in Bombings at Cinemas Grows to 18
Bangladeshi authorities questioned movie theater employees as the death toll in a string of cinema bombings rose to 18. Meanwhile, the government ruled out an Al Qaeda role in the attacks.
Visiting the sites, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia said police had many leads and that “those who are responsible will be tracked down and put on trial.”
Police said 21 people were arrested in Mymensingh, site of the bombings, and were being interrogated. In Dhaka, the capital, police took 39 members of an opposition party into custody.
