U.S. Soldier Convicted in Car Accident
From Times Wire Reports
South Korea’s Supreme Court convicted a U.S. soldier charged with hitting a Korean pedestrian in a car accident and sentenced him to eight months in prison. The ruling required the U.S. military to hand Ronnie D. Kirby, 27, over to South Korean authorities to have him serve the term in a Korean prison.
“Since the accident occurred not while on official duty, South Korea has jurisdiction on the case,” said Lee Ferguson, a U.S. military representative. The accident occurred in July 2001.
