From Times Staff Reports

Actor Ed Begley Jr. scaled an old oak tree Saturday to show support for an environmental activist who has been perched in its branches since Nov. 1 in an effort to save it from a road - widening project.

“We talked through the issues and some strategy decisions,” tree sitter John Quigley said after Begley’s 90-minute visit.

Quigley and his supporters plan to continue to pressure developer John Laing Homes to reroute the road and preserve the 400-year-old tree.
