No Applause for Actors on the World Stage
Thank you for Michael Ramirez’s editorial cartoon (Commentary, Dec. 12) demonstrating the self-promoting folly of actors speaking out on issues such as a possible war with Iraq. While I respect their right to speak out on their views and use their celebrity to bring attention to the issue, I do not understand why people pay any attention to them. Who are we to believe regarding the dangers that the Iraqi regime presents -- United States, British and other government intelligence that resulted in a bipartisan bill authorizing the president to take action against Iraq or actors who play roles for a living?
Are these the people who should be advising the president on the balance he strikes between diplomacy and military force? I do not think so.
