From Times Wire Reports

On a 40-9 vote, the New York City Council approved a bill banning using cell phones at public performances -- from Broadway shows to art galleries to Madison Square Garden concerts.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said he would veto the bill, but the council can override him.

Talking, listening or even having a cell phone ring during a performance would constitute a violation, and a $50 fine.
