Little Health Risk Seen From Post-9/11 Dust

Scientists say the layer of irritating dust that covered Lower Manhattan after the terrorist attacks last year probably will not cause alarming increases in cancer, emphysema and other serious long-term health problems.

An analysis found that most potentially toxic particles collected in the week after the World Trade Center attacks were too large to lodge deep in people’s lungs. Only 1% of the dust samples was made of finer particles.
